Annabel Kennedy will be singing Elgar's Sea Pictures with us at the Tavistock Festival on 4th May.  Annabel's appearance is kindly supported by Making Music’s Philip & Dorothy Green Young Artists scheme.

I grew up in a small coastal village called Newton Ferrers on the River Yealm. Our local beach (and my favourite place) is Mothecombe Beach. My father and uncle were both in the Navy and I grew up spending lots of time on the water. With my father being in the military, we lived in Canada and Oman, however we always returned to Devon (both of my parents are from Devon).

I attended Stover School in Newton Abbot and Plymouth College for Sixth Form, both on music scholarships. I found my love for singing whilst in the choir at Stover School with the amazing singer teacher Sarah Farleigh. Mrs Farleigh is the person who introduced me to the idea of studying at a music conservatoire, something I had no idea about!

With her support and the help of my music teacher of PMC David Green, I was fortunate enough to gain a place at the Royal College of Music in London. I studied there for eight years and graduated last July. It has been a whirlwind time, and was a big culture change moving to London! I am gearing up now to move to Düsseldorf for a two year contract at the Deustche Oper am Rhein, however home will always be by the sea in Devon.
